Overview
You may be able to borrow money from the UK Government to help pay your tuition fees and to help with your living costs while studying.
The first thing you need to do is register for an account with the Student Loan Company (SLC) and then complete an application to see if you are eligible for funding.
You will need to provide details so that your application can be considered. This will include details of your nationality or residency status, whether you have received any previous funding, the course you are applying for qualifies for funding, as well as provide evidence of your identity.
This can be done online for most students, however sometimes it may be necessary to complete a paper-based application, you will be advised during the application process if that is the case.
Types of Funding
There are three main types of funding available, you can choose which ones to apply for based on your needs and circumstances.
The outcome will depend on your circumstances and the application details you submit. Each one is covered in more detail on the website, visit gov.uk/student finance
Tuition Fee Loans - these loans are not income-assessed and are used to pay your UK-based tuition fees.
Maintenance Loans - these loans are partly income-assessed and can be used to help with the cost of living whilst you are studying.
Supplementary Grants - these grants are limited to students with specific personal circumstances or needs and may or may not be repayable depending on your circumstances.
