Last month, GBS construction management students visited a live construction site, courtesy of Canary Wharf Group (CWG).
The visit gave students the opportunity to experience a large-scale construction environment first-hand and gain insight into how major projects are delivered. For many, it was their first time on a site of this scale, helping bring classroom learning to life through real-world context.
The day began with a welcome session and safety briefing, followed by an introduction to Canary Wharf Group and an overview of the Wood Wharf project. Students also heard from CWG industry professionals about all the different career pathways within construction, from project management to engineering and sustainability roles.
A guided tour of the 23-acre site, encompassing residential, retail and public realm, allowed students to see the project up close and observe how different teams work together, as well as how modern construction incorporates technology and sustainable practices.
Construction management student, Reka Szekely, said: “It was a great opportunity to understand how construction sites operate in real life.”
GBS would like to thank CWG for hosting this experience for our students.
