SUSAN BUSBY

Dean of Studies, Provost Office

What attracted you to GBS?
The campuses across the major UK cities and numerous partnerships with universities showed it was a progressive institution with a passion for supporting students and staff. I was inspired by the high student satisfaction rates and international ambitions for growth, which made me curious and excited about the opportunity to work with GBS.

What does your job involve on a day-to-day basis?
As part of the programme management team and a member of the faculty I am fortunate to have a wide variety of tasks to participate in. My job involves working with a diverse and international team to deliver lectures which match my specialism as well as collaboratively designing learning resources, marking assessments, and creating new pedagogical initiatives to promote teaching excellence which elevate the student experience.
It also involves extensive line management responsibilities for GBS faculty and students across all campuses on the University of Suffolk programme. This offers me the opportunity to work with Faculty, Professional staff, and Senior management, to consult others and facilitate student learning in a very international context.

What has surprised you about working for GBS?
The level of autonomy and fast decision making which creates high levels of energy and great teamwork across all the campuses. In my opinion the career progression and development opportunities for academic and professional staff are impressive, high performance is rewarded and encouraged.

The workplace is positive with new initiatives constantly implemented to facilitate the staff/student experience. Faculty are given scope and encouraged to undertake professional research, connect with industry, develop pedagogical skills, and take part in entrepreneurial activities which encourages staff and student engagement.
