Month: August 2020

GBS hosted its first online webinar this month (Wednesday 3 June) on ‘Clarity and Sophistication in Academic Writing’, in which guest speaker Dr Steven O’Brien shared his higher education experience and top tips for successful academic writing.

The event was well attended and received a high level of engagement and positive feedback from students who enjoyed the opportunity to view the very informative content provided by Dr Steven O’Brien.

The event attracted just over 200 registrations from GBS students.

The feedback reflected that they thoroughly enjoyed the webinar, scoring the event 4.5 out 5.0 and 100% of attendees said they would attend GBS events again in the future. Further feedback from attendees was that they thought the content and presentation style was excellent:

“Thank you for taking the time to do the lecture, very useful to learn about academic writing skills”
“Engaging speaker and relevant content”
“Education is the key to success”

Following the success of the webinar, GBS plans to host a series of events covering a range of relevant topics. Our next event will be a virtual open day in July. More details and how to register for the event will be available soon.

GBS offers exciting, rewarding and supportive approaches to its teaching and learning provision in response to the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid -19) and is committed to looking after the welfare of its students.

Since March we have successfully migrated to an online teaching provision and invested heavily in technology. We have trained teaching and support staff to provide high quality and engaging methods of teaching and learning, together with excellent student support.

Following the advice and guidance from the UK Government and the Office for Students, GBS have taken the decision to commence the new term with online tuition. This provision will continue for the foreseeable future and until there is a change to Government guidelines.

When Government guidelines do change, GBS will be provide blended learning, which is a combination of online and campus teaching for all students. Whilst ensuring the safety of students and staff at all times and meeting Government guidelines, the following options are being developed in response to what GBS will be permitted to offer:

· Online teaching

· Blended learning with both online teaching and campus-based teaching sessions

· Online teaching with physical access to learning resources at GBS campuses

· Campus-based teaching with online learning resources at GBS campuses

GBS will continue to closely monitor Government guidelines regarding social distancing and the number of people allowed on campus at any one time. We will ensure the premises are kept clean and sanitised regularly with a deep clean each evening.

Whatever the circumstances, GBS is committed to ensuring that students have a rewarding, fulfilling and safe learning experience on their chosen course of study.

Student Protection Plan

GBS has produced a Student Protection Plan, which has been approved by the Office for Students and is designed to protect against any material changes to student’s study programmes.

The material change now affecting GBS is the closure of all or parts of its four campuses. This change is in response to UK Government advice and guidance and we are providing our teaching and learning as detailed above.

GBS is committed to ensuring its students achieve the best possible outcome from their studies. GBS will take all reasonable steps to minimise any disruption to our student’s studies during the current Coronavirus pandemic.

The GBS Student Protection Plan can be viewed here.

Making a Complaint

Students are entitled to make a complaint about any service offered by GBS. Where a student or prospective student expresses a level of dissatisfaction of a service offered by GBS, we do our very best to resolve the issue. In the rare event that an informal attempt at resolution does not resolve the issue, students can use our formal complaints procedure.

The GBS complaints Policy and Procedure, Complaints Flow Chart, Complaints Student Guide and Complaints Stage 2 Form (formal stage) are all available to view here on our website.

If GBS is unable to resolve a formal complaint satisfactorily you are entitled to take your issue to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education. This is an independent body and more information can be found at https://www.oiahe.org.uk.
